Deaths
Miss Bettie Poulson died at her home at "Cokesbury" on Onancock Creek,
August 1st, Aged 84 years. She had been an invalid for a long time but
bore her sufferings with Remarkable fortitude. Miss Poulson was faithful
to an aged mother for many years. As long as health permitted she was
active in the work of Makemie and Naomi Makemie Presbyterian Churches.
She and all her family were loyal to the Old South, remaining unreconstructed
to the end. Miss Poulson was a regular contributor to the fund that supplies
delicacies to the soldiers at Lee Camp Confederate Veterans, Richmond.
Funeral services were conducted at her late home, Tuesday by the Rev.
Mr. Flournoy, of Cape Charles and burial was made in the family burying
ground. Surviving her are two sisters, Miss Sarah C. Poulson, of Onancock,
and Mrs. Charlotte Taylor, of Cape Charles, two nephews, Dr. Robert Fletcher,
of Wilmington, and Mr. Robert Taylor, of Baltimore, and a niece, Mrs. Edwin
Goffigon, of Cape Charles.
